Prague – Day 1

Hotel Paris Prague

We arrived in Prague on Thursday afternoon after a long flight and layover in Amsterdam. The flight itself seemed to go pretty well. We had bulkhead seats and there were no screaming babies or people listening to their music or playing videos without headphones.

We did have a bit of a scare and i wouldn’t say almost missed our flight to Prague, but it was a bit hairy. When we arrived in Amsterdam, the board said our flight was at A87, so we got dinner, did some looking in the shops and walked around for the 4-hour layover. We got to the gate early, but that airport is weird, because there is seating for the gate on a main level and then have to actually go downstairs to the gate, where there is more seating.

After sitting up top for a while, we realized we hadn’t heard any announcements, and our flight was due to board. So we went downstairs and found a seat, then realized that the board had a flight to somewhere different than Prague! But there is NO ONE to ask. We went back upstairs where the terminals are and there is no one you can ask and no board you can check. Our boarding passes on the Delta app didn’t actually have a gate number.

Gregg hoofed it back to the beginning of the concourse (of course we were at the very end) and our flight was now leaving out of D63. And while you’d think D63 would only be a short distance from D87, it’s in an entirely different arm. So we took advantage of the moving sidewalks and hustled our way to the gate, just as our boarding group was being called.

Thankfully, our flight was uneventful and we made it to Prague. And while it was a bit more expensive than getting an Uber, I had arranged for our hotel to pick us up. So it was nice to come down the escalator to find a man holding a sign with our name. After traveling for 20+ hours, all we had to do was climb into the back of the car.

Our hotel was Hotel Paris Prague and it was a 5 minute walk from the Old Town. The hotel was very nice and the rooms were beautiful. The only issue that I had, which has happened in several European hotels, is that when there is a combined shower/bath, you have to actually step over a pretty high ledge to get into the bathtub. And more importantly, when you’re getting ouf of the shower, you have to step over and then much further DOWN to the floor. Which is marble. And wet. With Gregg being 6’6, he didn’t have any issues, but at 5’6, I’m pretty average in height for a woman and it’s dangerous, I tell you. It’s a wonder I didn’t break my neck every time I just wanted to get clean. I imagine someone really short would need a pole vault sort of setup.
