Today started at 3:45am and 30 degrees. We had been warned that spring breakers were clogging the airport so we arrived pretty early for our 5:45 boarding to Houston. It was freezing outside, but thankfully we went right from the hotel to a warm shuttle bus and away we went to the airport.
The flight was uneventful to Houston and for once, the layover was exactly the right amount of time. We had enough time to make it from terminal A to terminal E, get something to eat, visit the restroom and fill our water bottles. We had barely sat down when boarding was called for the 9 hour flight to Honolulu. The best part was the empty seat between us. So the flight didn’t suck.
When arrived in Honolulu, the plane was treated to the unusual occurrence of approaching from the west, giving the right side of the plane a beautiful and rare view down the length of Waikiki. Or so we were told by the pilot. As luck would have it, we were on the left side of the plane. Of course.
After leaving 30 degrees and no humidity, 85 and 76% was a little overwhelming. But after getting settled into our hotel and having dinner and drinks next door at Duke’s, we cooled down and the night was pleasant. But it’s been a very long day. It’s only 6:47pm here, but after being fed and watered, unpacking, and getting settled, we’re both beat. So it’s going to be an early night in our new time zone – five hours behind central. But I’m sure we’ll be up bright and early tomorrow morning for our 1.5 days of Waikiki before the tour starts Friday afternoon.
Aloha!
